I notice that we are not able to edit names in the 1910 United States Census. Why is that?
Out of curiosity, I checked other census years, and see that we do have the ability to edit names in the 1920 & 1940 censuses. I've read the article about Why Can't I fix Indexing or Transcriptions Errors? - but, it doesn't seem to make sense that you would have different agreements from one census year to another.
I'm just wondering if this is a glitch.

I think a lot depends upon where the index came from. Not all indexes are produced through FamilySearch. That may or may not be the situation with the 1910 U.S. Census Enumeration.

I just checked the 'FamilySearch' "Wiki" for that "1910, Census of the United States of America".

Question 1:
.
Why am I not able to view the image when I login, but am directed to Ancestry.com where I have to pay for the image? Are there other options for viewing the images?
.
Answer 1:
'.
- FamilySearch has rights to publish images online to users from the supporting organization only (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Patrons logging in with a church account will be able to view the images at FamilySearch.org. You may also view the images without cost at the Family History Library and some FamilySearch Centers. Call ahead to check if the film is available at your local center.
..
- U.S. Censuses can also be viewed free of charge through Heritage Quest at local libraries.

.
So ...
That said ...
.
A join project, hence most likely the reason why the "Index" (ie. the "Name") for the "1910, Census of the United States" CANNOT be "Edited".
.
I know that this does not help; but, I hope this gives you some perspective.

From my New Zealand computer, non-LDS account I was offered the possibility of editing the index of a 1910 Census record. I was also able to view original images.

FYI
.
'Yes', the "Image" of the "1910, Census of the United States of America" is 'On-Line" and available to view.
.
And ...
.
'Yes', in the "1910, Census of the United States of America" CERTAIN 'Parts" of that "Indexed" Record CAN be "Edited" in 'FamilySearch'.
.
They being the:
▬ Event Date; and,
▬ Event Place; and,
▬ Birthplace
.
But, that is ALL.
.
And, certainly NOT the "Name".
.
(Video) Finding Missing People in the Census | AncestryWhereas, in this case, it is the "Name", that the poster, 'Michael', appears to want to be able to "Edit" ...
.
Just guessing here, but, the unavailability of the "Name" to be "Edited" may be because that the "Index" was created by, both, 'FamilySearch'; and, "Ancestry_com"
.
Just a thought.
